Best of 2021: Danni Gallacher

Round off our Best of 2021 recaps is the über-proactive founder of Girl Skate UK, Danni Gallacher! Have a scroll below to find out what Danni made of the last 12 months, then be sure to grab a copy of Issue 4 whilst you still can, to read Danni's Muse interview with Claire Alleaume, where the pair discuss the genesis of the mighty Girl Skate UK!

Skater of 2021:

Christopher Price ;)

Trick of 2021:

I loved Astrid Cohen's heelflip down Southbank.

Video part of 2021:

Helena Long in Synthesize Me, and everything else she’s put out this year. Rad rad rad. Love her.

Quote of 2021:

“There are always flowers for those who want to see them”. - Henri Matisse

Song of 2021:

The Times They Are a-Changing - Bob Dylan

Favourite clip filmed in 2021:

The Girl Skate UK X Rollersnakes collab edit. I think it’s the only thing I’ve really filmed this year; should probably work on that in 2022.

Favourite photo shot in 2021:

Probably one of the photos Rob (Whiston) shot at my ramp? I was stoked to get the switch blunt because I had only just learnt it!

Danni switch blunts on her very own allotment ramp. Photo: Rob Whiston.

Favourite non-skating pastime of 2021:

Growing, foraging, and this year I’ve also made friends with an enchanting little robin that eats mealworms from my hand  - that’s definitely my top 2021 highlight!

Event of 2021:

The GSUK Christmas Jam. I’ve been pretty cautious with hosting events this year still, so it was only the second of 2021, but it was lovely to be able to end the year with a big party and see lots of old friends.

Road trip of 2021:

The Skate Retreat - it was soo much fun! There were two mini ramps in the forest, glamping huts, a physio & massage treatment room, karaoke and handpan around the campfire, amazing food, and some hilarious drunken tree piñatas. Can’t wait to do it all again next year!

Skater to watch out for in 2022:

Astrid Cohen. Kitty Joseph. Miriam Nelson. Ayva Whittenbury. I have loved watching them all progress over this past year and can’t wait to see more from them next year.

The thing you’re most looking forward to in 2022:

All of the exciting projects we have lined up with Girl Skate UK and The Skate Retreat, but I’m also looking forward to hosting some foraging workshops and camping in the van searching for more mushroom spots!
