The annual Sabbath Wheels renegade street gathering returned Back to the Beginning on Saturday past, as Rob Whiston’s travelling carnival of four-wheeled chaos returned to Birmingham’s fabled Fastlands proving ground, the spiritual homeland of Black Mass.
Having departed the West Country after the inaugural day of winter carnage back in 2022, the Black Mass roadshow then rolled into Bute Square in Cardiff in 2023, and Bristol’s Bear Pit last summer, with all the three days containing bespoke obstacles, ballistic skateboarding, and more than a slight element of mortal peril. For 2025, the faithful (or faithless) hordes were once again summoned to Fastlands, the semi-sheltered expanse of pedestrian nothingness that dwells beneath the Brummy ring road. Following in the now set Black Mass tradition, the likes of Heathen Skateboards, Slap Ramps, Ideal Skate Shop, GVNMNT Clothing, OG Distribution and AS Colour threw their lot in with the Sabbath urethane overlords and plotted another lawless day for the ages. On the agenda were more custom built additions to the existing skateable architecture, a burger eating contest, and - of course - a touch of pyromania.
Mike Wright and Chris Johnson were both on hand to witness the ensuing Saturday afternoon mayhem, so scroll below for a taste of how the day unfolded. And keep your eyes peeled for where Rob Whiston will be gracing with his Black Mass presence in 2026…
